Citizen ASAS-SN

Citizen ScienceOngoing

Project Overview

Citizen ASAS-SN is a citizen science astronomy project where students classify variable stars using real astronomical light curve data collected by the All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN). Participants help scientists study how stars change in brightness and behavior over time.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding variable stars and stellar behavior
  • Exposure to real astronomical survey data
  • Development of data analysis and pattern-recognition skills
  • Introduction to light curve interpretation
  • STEM and astronomy career awareness

Student Activities

  • Analyze stellar light curve data
  • Identify and classify different types of variable stars
  • Observe brightness variation patterns
  • Participate in astronomical data classification activities
  • Submit findings through the research platform

Eligibility

  • Middle school to high school students
  • Beginner to intermediate participation level
  • Suitable for astronomy clubs and STEM programs
